Moving to 89.1 FM!
KJZX-LP was experiencing signal interference on our original assigned frequency of 101.9 FM well within our "protected" coverage area as defined by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which roughly includes a circle with a 3-mile radius centered near E. 51st and Berkman. This includes much of East and Central Austin north of the river, including Windsor Park, Mueller, Hyde Park, North Loop, Cherrywood, Govalle, MLK and Chestnut neighborhoods.
A sports signal (K270CO) on the same 101.9 frequency from Round Rock/Georgetown has been interfering with the reception of Jazz ATX for many listeners. K270CO 101.9 is a translator of "The Horn", KTAE-AM, which is also duplicated on 104.9 FM in Austin.
However, we have been approved by the FCC to move down the radio dial to 89.1 FM! This should create a much more listenable signal throughout much of central Austin, and will put us in good company with other noncommercial community radio stations. The 89.1 move will take several months to accomplish. Stay tuned for details.
Our Jazz Programming
Jazz ATX is running a mix of programming right now including eight hours a day of jazz programming from Global Community Radio, as well as the WFMT Jazz Network for our overnight hours, and a jazz mix from a growing jazz library. As we grow, we'll be adding live, local jazz programming for much of our daytime and evening programming.
Austin's Jazz Community
Jazz ATX will be working with Austin's jazz community over the next year, working to become an integral part of the jazz community. Austin's got some great jazz musicians, clubs and radio DJs, and Jazz ATX would be proud to support them.
